Belt and Road People-to-People Communication Forum successfully held in Tehran


On April 23, sponsored by Belt and Road Publishing Cooperative, Renmin University of China, and the Iranian Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS), co-organized by China Renmin University Press and Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies of Renmin University of China (RDCY), the Belt and Road People-to-People Communication Forum was successfully held in Tehran, the capital of Iran. As one of the major events of the 32nd Tehran International Book Fair, the forum focuses on academic exchanges and publishing cooperation, so as to strengthen civilizition exchanges and promote people-to-people bond between China and Iran.

H.E. Ashraf BOROUJERDI, Director of the National Library and Archives of Iran, Guo Weimin, Vice Minister of the State Council Information Office of the People's Republic of China, Ayyub Dehghankar, Secretary-General of Decision-making Committee of Tehran International Book Fair, Pang Sen, Ambassador of China to Iran, Dr. Mohammad Hasan Sheikholeslami, Deputy President of IPIS, and several other Chinese and Iranian guests, delivered opening remarks.

More than 200 people attended the forum, including Officials and scholars from China, Iran, Portugal, Turkey, Russia, Kazakhstan, and South Korea, ambassadors and representatives from more than a dozen countries such as Pakistan, Venezuela, Japan, and Georgia, representatives of the United Nations in Iran, and celebrities from all walks of life as well as the representative of the media.

At the opening ceremony, Li Yongqiang, President of China Renmin University Press and Chairman of a Council of B&R Publishing Cooperative, released a series of cooperative results. Wang Wen, Executive Dean of RDCY, highlighted the research results such as the “China’s Leadership in Global Governance”, written by Jin Nuo, secretary of the party committee of Renmin University of China, and “China’s Bright Future”, written by Wang Wen.

Then, the Iran Nahl Publication House, Ibrahim Publication, POL Agency, People's Publishing House and China Renmin University Press jointly signed the copyright transfer agreement for the Persian version’s copyright of "China’s Leadership in Global Governance” “China's Bright Future: The Views of a Chinese think-tank Scholar on the world stage” by Wang Wen.

Eight publishers from China, Iran, Russia, and South Korea signed the “Publishing Cooperation Declaration”, promoting to foster the cooperation in publishing and distribution among the countries along the Belt and Road and jointly push forward the people-to-people exchanges. Li Yongqiang moderated the opening ceremony.

Next, The panel discussion focused on the “Civilization and National Development, a Community of Shared Future for Mankind”. Ding Gang, Senior Fellow of RDCY and Senior adviser to the Global Times, moderated the session. Bruno Maçães, Former Minister for Europe Affairs in the Portuguese government, Non-resident Senior Fellow of RDCY, -Mohsen SHARIATINIA, Professor at Shahid Beheshti University, Chen Dingding, Professor of International Relations at Jinan University, and Founding Director of Intellisia Institute,Mostafa Mohammadi, Head of Youth Committee of Iran-China Friendship Association and Visiting Lecturer of Management at Shahid Beheshti University, and Kadir Temiz, Assistant Professor of İstanbul Şehir University, conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as promoting cooperation among different civilizations and jointly building a community with a shared future for mankind.

The panel discussion with the theme “Promote Publishing Cooperation of Belt and Road Initiative and People-to-people Communication by means of books”, was hosted by Li Yongqiang. GE Jianxiong, Senior Professor of Fudan University and Member of the Social Sciences Committee under the National Ministry of Education, Zimarin Oleg, General Director and Editor-in-Chief of VES MIR Publishers in Russia, Assan Almaz Talgatbekuly, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Press in Kazakhstan, Abbas Husseini, Director of Majd Pubs.and Head of the Iranian Academic Publishers Assembly, and Kim Seung IL, President of Kyungji Publisher and Winner of "Special Contribution Award for Chinese Books”in Korea, conducted discussions on how to promote cooperation in the publication and distribution of books in the countries along the Belt and Road and strengthen people-to-people communication.

In recent years, Renmin University of China has established good cooperative relations with Iranian political and academic circles. The two sides have in-depth exchanges frequently. RUC has been to Iran for research investigation many times, and Iranian politicians and academics have visited the RUC for many times and delivered public speeches. The two sides have jointly held several China-Iran think tank dialogues and signed the first international think-tank cooperation agreement on jointly building “Belt and Road” through the cooperation of the official and academic organizations between China and Iran, which is a new mode of think-tank cooperation to promote the Belt and Road.

During the forum, more than 600 kinds of Chinese books were also on display in six categories: General Secretary Xi Jinping's important works, books on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the people's Republic of China and the 40th anniversary of reform and opening up, academic works on humanities and social sciences, books on Chinese traditional culture, books on natural sciences, and books on the theme of Belt and Road.

The forum is an important event hosted by China at the 32nd Tehran International Book Fair in Iran, and has also been included in the list of outcomes of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation as one of the important activities of jointly building transnational publishing cooperative. At the same time, this forum is also an important warm-up event for the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation to be held in Beijing in late April.
