2019-10-15

On October 8th, the third lecture of"The 70th Anniversary of the Founding of The PRC" series which hosted by Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies of Renmin University of China (RDCY) and Huanqiu Web, was held at RDCY.

JIn Canrong, the Deputy dean of School of International Studies of Renmin University of China, delivered a keynote speech on "The 70 Years of China Diplomatic Relations". The lecture was hosted by Zhang Tingting, an assistant research fellow of RDCY.Yang Qingqing, Assistant to the dean of RDCY, gave an opening speech. More than 200 guests attended the lecture.

Jin Canrong pointed out that China's diplomacy has been successful in the past 70 years and has stood out in many countries. The reason for its success lies in the fact that China's diplomacy has not made big mistakes. The competition between countries does lie in making fewer mistakes. In history, China has no desire and action for foreign aggression and invasion, which is fundamentally different from the Western civilization. Therefore, the strategic cautious thinking has avoided major diplomatic mistakes in the past 70 years, and has not delayed the construction of the country.

Jin Canrong believes that China's diplomacy in the past 70 years has been deeply affected by internal affairs. Generally speaking, the internal affairs decide diplomacy policy. As a super great power with large national territorial area, enormous population and profound cultural heritage, internal affairs play the decisive role and effect more prominently. From a realistic point , in the diplomatic process of China, the national interests and ideologies intertwine and alternate with each other in foreign policy. In a nutshell, n the first 30 years the role of ideology is more important than national interests. In the next 40 years, national interests are more important than ideology, but Western liberal ideology is subtly affecting Chinese diplomacy. Jin also insists that the current ideology affecting China's diplomacy consists of three parts. One is the communist ideology of the Soviet Union in the early days of the founding of New China, the other one is the Western liberal ideology that entered China since the reform and opening up, and the last is the ideology from China classical culture.

Jin Canrong said that in the past 70 years, China's diplomacy has six major achievements. First, it has safeguarded national sovereignty and ended the era of passive beatings. The second is to promote the country's economic development, especially in industrialization. Third, national interests have been safeguarded. The fourth is to actively promote globalization and to participate in solving global problems. The fifth is to maintain regional stability, especially with neighboring countries. Sixth, it actively promotes the construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics and explored a road to modernization.

Jin Canrong said that the three stages of China's diplomacy are "stand up, get rich, and strengthen" and the three stages are completely corresponding to the development of New China. Finally, from his perspectives, the Fourth Industrial Revolution is the greatest opportunity in modern history which we must seize. In a sense, this is the mission of the generation. We must work hard to make China accomplish the Fourth Industrial Revolution first and let China become the leader.
