Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China (RDCY) was established on January 19th, 2013. It is the main funding program that Shanghai Chongyang Investment Group Co., Ltd. donated to Renmin University of China and established the education fund to operate.
As a new type of think tank with Chinese characteristics, RDCY invited dozens of former politicians, bankers and renowned scholars from all over the world as senior fellows, aiming at focusing on reality, advising the country and serving the people. At present, RDCY consists of 7 departments and operates 4 research centers (the Center for Eco-Financial Studies, Global Governance Research Center, China-US People-to-People Exchange Research Center, and China-Russia People-to-People Exchange Research Center). In recent years, RDCY has gained high recognition at home and abroad in the research fields of financial development, global governance, great power relations and macro policies.

The Center for Eco-Financial Studies, which RDCY operates and was donated by Beijing Qiaonyu Foundation, undertakes the function of the Secretariat of Green Finance Committee of China Society for Finance and Banking (GFC); Global Governance Research Center was donated by JuFeng Capital, Co., Ltd. and He Yafei, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs serves as the director. The director of China-US People-to-People Exchange Research Center is served by Wu Xiaoqiu, the former vice president of Renmin University of China; and the director of China-Russia People-to-People Exchange Research Center is served by Zhou Li, the former Vice Minister of the International Department of Central Committee of the Communist Party of China(CPC). Both Research Centers work under the guidance of the Ministry of Education.
RDCY has a very capable and efficient full-time operation and research team. It has been awarded as the most influential “Belt and Road” research university think tank in China for many times. It is also in the leading position in the research of global governance, macro finance, major power relations, and public diplomacy and so on. As of spring 2021, more than 80 related works and hundreds of research reports have been published. Related outcomes have been approved and affirmed by President Xi Jinping and other policy makers for many times. On May 17, 2016, President Xi Jinping presided over the Philosophy and Social Sciences Symposium. Wang Wen, Fellow Researcher of RDCY, was invited to speak and was recognized by President Xi on the spot.
RDCY is also an important policy advisory organ for more than 10 ministries and commissions, including the General Office of the CCCPC, General Office of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, the Publicity Department of the CPC, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the People's Bank of China, the China Securities Regulatory Commission, China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission, the International Department of the Central Committee of CPC, Cyberspace Administration of China, and the Ministry of Education. In the year of 2020 alone, RDCY participated in more than 150 policy consultation meetings held by various provincial ministries and commissions.
In 2013, RDCY’s proposal "China should actively bid for the G20 Summit" was adopted, which greatly promoted China's participation in global governance. In 2016, RDCY was officially designated as the co-lead think tank of the Hangzhou G20 Summit. In 2020, RDCY was appointed to be the “14th Five-Year Plan” expert of NDRC's ”Belt and Road" Initiative, Cyberspace Administration of China, and Gansu Province. It was also selected as a national publicity group for the spirit of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
RDCY has established a stable cooperation mechanism with major think tanks in more than 40 countries. It has undertaken related activities in more than 20 countries including the United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom and Iran. It actively acted in line with China’s public diplomacy. At that time, Liu Yandong, Vice Premier of the State Council, Dai Bingguo, former State Councilor, Wang Yi, State Councilor and Foreign Minister, Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, and other important leaders attended the forum hosted by RDCY for many times.
RDCY is the new form of think tank with Chinese characteristics that is best at speaking out opinions overseas. It has published or accepted interviews hundreds of times by the New York Times, the Globe and Mail in Canada, the Financial Times, and Russia Today. In particular, in 2020, RDCY took the lead in publishing "An Open Letter to the people of the United States from 100 Chinese Scholars" in the well-known journal The Diplomat and "No New Cold War" global initiative, which has an international audience of hundreds of millions.
RDCY has also set up a new type of think tank with Chinese characteristics that has the most complete new media operations. From the official Chinese and English website, WeChat, Weibo, Bilibili, Toutiao to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc., there are more than 20 platforms in the Chinese and English all-media matrix, attracting more than 3 million fans worldwide.
In the list of major global and domestic think tanks, RDCY is firmly ranked among China’s first-line think tanks, including the “Top 150 Global Think Tanks”, the most influential “Belt and Road” university think tanks, the top 100 university think tanks A++, the world’s most influential think tanks, the top 90 global university think tanks, the Chinese think tank of the Year, and “the Top 40 think tanks in 40 years of reform and opening up”, etc.
